Bartomeu Gomila

There are some who work for living, others who live for working, and others who simply live their job...
Born in Menorca, Bartomeu Gomila Sintes was brought into contact with watches when he was seven, he was ill in bed and his grandmother gave him an old broken alarm clock to entertain him. This odd mechanism would lead his life, since a growing interest for watchmaking mechanisms was born with it.
During his teenager summers, he worked in a jeweller’s shop to buy his first motorcycle. There he knew he wanted to devote to watchmaking. Therefore, after his secondary education, he began his high school at Verge de la Mercé in Barcelona (1995), reconciling these studies with various jobs, the last one in Roca jewellery, where he would continue after finishing his degree, as a Rolex after-sales service employee (1999).
Two years later, he had the chance to become a partner of the first jewellery he had worked for in Alaior, his native town and he accepted. Nevertheless, after two years he decided to go back to Barcelona to become the manager of the Montblanc watchmaking technical service in Spain, belonging to the Richemont group.
Four years later, he decided to put his faith in his dream: the watchmaking restoration, and so he applied for the most prestigious course in this category: the Restoration and Complicated Watches Course in WOSTEP, Switzerland, a postgraduate course for watchmakers working in restoration of the highest quality watches, which is, by the way, no longer available. He achieved one of the two posts offered for 2008, being his teacher the eminent watchmaker Marion Muller. There he had the privilege to restore authentic works of art of the most important firms, such as Ulisse Nardin, Jaeger Le Coultre, Longines or Gerald Genta of which some example reports can be seen in the "Restorations" section. Furthermore, he had the privilege to be the first Spanish who obtained this certification.
Once finished his vocational training, he now begins his adventure on his own, opening "Taller del Temps" in Menorca, where a pioneering service in Spain is offered regarding to restoration, since up till now all the important jewelleries were sending these type of pieces abroad, as there were no adequately trained specialists in Spain.
